NC500 Lochcarron Camping opportunities ?

Post by bikerwaser »

Hi All

Myself and a friend are heading up to Scotland later this week and are looking out for camping spots.

We may not use them as we're planning to do a bit of wild camping.

But I'd just like to know where the camping spots are just in case we fancy them.

To start with , I reckon our first night will be in Lochcarron.

I see the "Wee Campsite" will be closed then.

I wondered if anyone has any other ideas of where to camp ?

I thought about asking at one of the pubs there. Maybe they're friendly and have a bit of grass out back ?

Any ideas or info would be welcome.

Thanks.

On the road to Shieldarg after the climb out of Lochcarron there are a few places before you get to the Applecross turning. I have wild camped quite close to the junction out sight behind a small mound. BTW although the Wee campsite isn't officially open they often let backpackers camp there I know some who have camped there at Christmas. It is worth a try as you are passing very close.

Should add if you have the energy to go on to Shieldarg the campsite there is always open as it is a village field with an honesty box.

Give them a ring, they may let you camp.

Been told today that the Shieldarg campsite is closed this year so disregard my previous advice regarding this campsite.

I can confirm that the Shieldaig campsite is closed. I was up there in September and there was a notice that the site was closed for improvement and will be open next year.
I cycled on to the campsite at Torridon.

From memory there were opportunities for wild camping on the way out of Lochcarron.
