Scottish Borders Bus service X62
Scottish Borders Bus service X62
This service Edinburgh to Melrose now has buses with bike racks. They possibly look a bit better than our X74 bike racks but proof will be in the using.

This looks good. Is there a charge for the bikes?
And, do you know if any other bike routes out of Edinburgh that takes bikes?
Thanks

Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62
I’ve used the 101 Dumfries > Edinburgh with a bike if it’s a coach type. Just ask the drier nicely and lay your bike in the luggage. Sadly since the Borders pulled their share of funding it looks like a normal service bus now.
I’ve had my bike on the X74 but the bike Racks didn’t work for my bike so I just laid it down in the luggage area. There is no charge for bikes.

Looks as if you can only get two bikes on and I would imagine like our X74 Dumfries > Glasgow there are times when substitute buses are on the route.
Edit: get the app it tells you when they run

Operating X62 Edinburgh-Melrose, our new double deckers also have free WiFi, contactless payment, comfortable seating and tables, wireless and USB charging points and device friendly seat backs.

Update: you can now track your bike friendly bus on the Borders Buses app. Simply click the X62 for information on the vehicle and our new buses will say BIKE after the vehicle registration

It would be for me, wife and our 4 year old bike tourist who has a weehoo. Perhaps, the weehoo could go into the language area.

I would have thought so.

Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62
Any more experience? Is this still a thing?
Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62
Had one go at it, the space was already taken, next bike bus was 2 hours with no guarentee of getting on. so I cycled it, it was only another 25 miles (which was a lot for me as I had already done 60) If I try it again I will get the bus on the outward journey.
Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62
Yes, "still a thing" and slowly extending to other services, such as Berwick-Edinburgh.
Recently, I've seen a few "bike capable" buses on the Berwick-Galashiels service, though I don't know if you can actually put a bike on those, or if its a bus substituting for another vehicle.
As Pebble says, unless you've ready for a long wait when a bus is full, use on outward leg of a trip so you're not stuck.

They also run these buses on the x95 route, Edinburgh to Carlisle via Galashiels and Hawick. No extra charge for the bikes as far as I know.

Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62
I regularly take my bike on the No.10 between Aberdeen and Inverness.
No charge for the bike. ( And none for me as an over 60 model! )
Bike goes underneath in luggage section.
No booking required.
Never had a space/ storage issue.
An hourly service Mon-Fri.
Saturdays as well, I think.
Sunday service starts around noon.
Only issue I once had was a jobs worthy at the Inverness bus station telling me the bike had to be covered before going under the coach.
When I spoke to the driver he said it didn't matter to him and the jobs worthy was a ' blank blank blank'.

Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62
I think that’s a bit different to the Borders Buses which have bike racks in the cabin (as I understand it) rather than putting them in the luggage space on a coach.
On a related note, have Scotrail put the bike carriages on the highland lines yet?
