Epic (my definition) European, or otherwise, tour suggestions.

Post by Polite »

There is a potential sabbatical on the horizon, which will give me an unpressurised timescale to complete a tour as well as being able to do it when it suits financially and season wise.

Obviously, the choice is immense and I'm not a millionaire. Some places/routes I haven't yet explored but definitely fancy are:

Vancouver to San Francisco
Iceland
Japan
Italy (Sicily and Sardinia)
Portugal
The Eurovelo routes

All your suggestions, stimuli and ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance....

How long might the sabbatical be?
I should cycle from home, not fly, maybe a triangular tour in Europe

Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

As you'll have plenty of time why not give your tour a theme. Such as old Roman roads or pilgrim routes (Santiago and/or Rome). The Roman roads established some of the great European towns and cities which are today thriving cultural and historic centres. You may not always be able follow the exact route in all cases but you'll be close enough. A lot of the pilgrim routes are cyclable or have cycle options and cheap accommodation along the way.

That's a great idea, thanks.
