Samuel D wrote:I think the words are perfectly understandable and well arranged. I don’t believe all of them, but enough of them ring true to make the reading good. The photos are crap and add much to the story. La vita depicted is far from dolce, although some beauty is apparent as in a William Eggleston picture. The man and his motives are opaque and intriguing. Keep it up, nsew … if you live.

+1

and a lot about italy is far from dolce.

That's a brit fantasy.

Though I have no issues with the photos at all - they look genuine - unlike many of the pics of la dolce vita fed to middle class brit food fetishists.

On Eggleston, Michael Almereyda made a fascinating documentary called William Eggleston In The Real World, back in 2005. I ordered it on DVD from America, that being the only place I could find it. It was rereleased recently and might be easier to find now. Worth hunting down if anything nsew says or shows here intrigues you. Trailer here.

Paris. Closest camp I’ve ever made to the city. On the V32 (Paris London voie verte).

Some photos from the road home - via Rhona. The Roman theatre at Orange. The footbridge at Ancône was a bit scary. CNR plant nearby.

The sun is out after a wet night. 10am, time to get out the sack. I love Paris, but not with a loaded bike.

Must confess to being pleased with the Eggleston comparison. Thanks for the heads up on the documentary. I’ve been developing a theory along the way that the best of us reveals itself when we are ’in the moment’.

If you like Eggleston, I would also try Stephen Shore. Quiet genius.
