Touring Europe

Post by the_mountain_goose »

Hello everyone :D

I'm planning a short tour of Central/West Europe.
Any recommendations regarding routes?

Cheers,
Stephen

Where to start, how long do you have? Where are arriving from? What do you want to see?
There are cycle routes along the Rhine and the Danube.
Black Forest is great.
Dolomites are out of this world, as are Alps, Pyrrenees, Cevannes and Causses are of France + the Carmargue.
Southern Spain Andalusia.
Tatra Mountains area of Poland / Slovakia.
West coast of Ireland.
That's before I start on Britain.....

My favourite cycling territory is SE France between the Rhone and the Italian border. I'd try to include that in some way. I'd also avoid major roads of course.

That's a bit like saying, I want to do some cooking, please suggest recipes – you need to give us more information:
How fit are you – strong or novice?
Twenty-mile-a-day pootle, or hundred-mile-a-day hurtle?
What kind of riding do you like – on-road, off-road? Flat, mountainous? Popular routes, empty wilderness?
Cool damp Scotland, or scorching Sicily?
Hotels, campsites, or wild camping?
"A short tour" - is that three days, or a month?
Plus twenty other questions that I haven't thought of yet.

Thanks for the great suggestions, certainly got loads of places to consider further :D

I'd never even considered the likes of Poland/Slovakia before, interesting.

I'm based in Scotland, weather wise, where ever I go, it can only get better.

Thanks again.

A lot to digest here, please tell me about amazing places you've been, I'll worry about the rest :D

If you want it all, it's hard to imagine starting in the Rhone valley and crossing the Alps and into Tuscany wouldn't tick a huge amount of boxes.
