Its amazing how many variations there are just between Whitehaven and Tynemouth The old railway line from Keswick to Threlkeld is closed so we are going to inspect the Castlerigg stone circle as a bypass. Thankfully there is now an alternative to Garrigill going via Alston I was scared stiff going the old way. The other diversion in Weardale is to avoid the Grouse Moors near Rookhope as the landowners can close the track without notice during the grouse season. The route overall is clearly signposted so it will be much easier than making our own route for Lejog was
Whats the flattest route for us with heart conditions ......

Where are B&Bers staying night before of arriving on the Monday? This has a couple of ideas Chase Hotel and Summer grove Halls. http://www.c2c-guide.co.uk/c2c-guide/st ... whitehaven Premier Inn a little out of town Ken
This route is for info, the route is well signposted. I would appreciate advice on whinlatter pass is it better to come down to Braithwaite via the road or follow route 71 through the forest.? We will be using road bikes. This was planned on plotaroute using osm cycle map the same as on my Garmin it may not be compatible with other maps http://www.plotaroute.com/route/856452

It has been proven that you and Kev are better at finding campsite and hotels than me

First riding night we are approx 2 mile from a pub I've stayed at this site and payed one of the workers there to take the 3 of us down and back later. Second night we are a couple of mile away from a town with lots of variety. I suggested we make friends with those of us with vehicles

We will be using road bikes.

Did the whole thing about 10 years ago. As I remember route 71 wasn't recommended for us on road bikes then - don't know if it's any worse or better! Whinlatter didn't seem so bad - the hills after Hartside after a glorious 6 mile descent into Alston seemed the worst. Day 2 looks like being a big one! Mind all this was when I was10 years younger. ,
