Ah that’s the one out of Nateby. Complete swine of a hill especially with panniers. There’s a ramp just before the top that caused me to get off to admire the view. I remember making use of the lay-by at the top to admire the clouds...

We stay at little salkeld on the first night of the ride proper the breakfast I mean is the following morning
From memory the full breakfast was £10 served in the farmhouse or £5 for a sandwich and a cuppa choice was bacon or sausage.
Or egg

Paulatic wrote:My latest update
From Tuesday 27 August the entire route will be closed to the public until the project is completed in December 2020. This is to ensure that the health and safety of the public is protected while major works are carried out on site. We appreciate that there will inevitably be some inconvenience for users. The project is a great opportunity to provide an important traffic-free and resilient link for a wide range of users between Keswick and Threlkeld

This refers to the Keswick area between the red crosses. Just stick to the yellow road (Penrith road)

Latest update is they are closing Penrith road from Sept 2 for 14 weeks :(
The 14-week road closure will apply to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Traffic that would usually use Penrith Road will be diverted into Keswick via the A66 and Crosthwaite Road.

As I see it the two obvious options are

4.2 miles
Or

3.9mls
The profile sits at the top of pic.
The Keswick bypass doesn’t usually look this quiet.

As Paulatic has informed us in a previous post that Penrith Road in Keswick will be closed on the day we ride through I have amended our route to avoid it. I have avoided using the market place as it sounds like a busy area.
I would be gratefull if Paulatic or anyone who knows the area would confirm if my proposed route avoids the roadworks.

That should be fine
It’s not a market day AFAIK so yes you could go straight up passed the Moot Hall if it’s not too busy looking with pedestrians. If it’s crawling with bagrats then the road will be quicker.

Paul, I saw the little word "up" in your answer.....I hope it's a metaphorical "up" and not one of your "It's flat" climbs that goes on forever!

Nick, I’ve been up all the ups bar one. There’s an up at the end which I’ve never been up. I’ve asked those who’ve been up it what is it like? I don’t want to put the wind up you but it doesn’t sound too friendly to me. Don’t get your hopes up about riding this one it’s name suggest you’ll be crawling up it
