Hi, everybody.
I am a commuter who wants to buy a new bike that can double as a touring bike also.
I found this one, and so I want to ask you guys with experience for opinion.
What do you think about it?

Can you fit mudguards and a rack? If not then it's not a touring bike.
How low is it's lowest gear?
What size tyres can you fit?

Just comparing the size of the chainring with the sprockets suggests that the gearing is way too high for touring unless you are only restricting your tours to Flatlandia or you are super fit and strong

The gearing is definetly to high. Maybe the front cog could be added or the crankset changed.
These are a few that I came across. How do these seem?

The ones with racks and mudguards are a good start because that answers two major questions.
Most other things can be modified, often quite cheaply.
Next question; how do they feel when you ride them?

I have a Dawes Kalahari that I am selling for £75. Takes racks and mudguards. Nice bike but been replaced.
I have some racks too if you're interested.

Bottom one for me.
Better spec components.
Mudguards and rack

That is from the 1960s/70s and not really practical for your use. it has steel rims, so will not stop well in the wet. the wheels are almost certainly 27" which restricts tyre choice and availability. Gearing is ok for a commuter, but not for a touring machine. It may be an interesting period piece to some people, but for you it is a non starter.putovatelj wrote:Hi, everybody.
