Group Transport to Bayonne

Postby Davidwd » 6 Dec 2019, 9:30pm

I am looking to take a group of 12/14 cyclists to Bayonne to cycle back on the EV1, does anyone know of a company with mini bus and trailer that would take us there please?

Your location in UK would help.

With that number of people I would contact local coach companies. Bikes underneath and in the back. That way, only one vehicle and one driver.

It would have to be a big specialised trailer to take 14 bikes safely and then you need a small bus for all those people. Combining the two could be a problem which could end up with 2 vehicles and drivers.

Bike Express do not go to Bayonne any more in fact they don't seem to be going anywhere compared with
the amount of places they used to go to , Hard times they have to concentrate on the routes the make them
money can not blame them for that it would be a shame if they disappeard all together as they have served me
well over the years.

Another thought.

Boxing all the bikes in LBS cardboard boxes would make finding a suitable trailer much easier.

Boxes are free and it's about an hour's easy work to box.

Yes, and it seems a shame as I never got to use them! (although my train-based trip via Le Havre-Paris-Bourdeaux was quite fun and not too much hassle)

If I had a group of 12+ I'd give Bike Express a call - they have the kit+drivers, so they might want the business?

Did you have any luck last time you asked a similar question?
This is a slightly easier one - Flixbus will get you from London to Bayonne from £25 and take a boxed/bagged bike as special luggage for an additional £9. The size/weight allowance of the special luggage might fit two bikes. I did a similar trip in September Derby>Santander with a bagged folding bike, but met a couple of other cyclists with full sized bagged bikes, apart from the boredom, the trip was fine. Depending on the size of the group, you may need to split up and go over a couple of days, even so the extra nights accommodation will be a lot less than trying to book dedicated transport. I doubt that's possible, there too much dead mileage, if you could find a group that wanted to come back from Bayonne (Or somewhere on route) that might make it more feasible, but if Bike Express can't make it worthwhile with 30+ passengers each way all paying £125+ (I make that at least £7,500 per trip) then it's hard to see how anyone else could.

I see what you mean PH. The OP posts, then that's it (also one on Japan). It would be useful if he came back with answers to questions and the results of his own investigations.
