Many thanks, Rotavator, I'm convinced you are right, it is indeed Barmouth/Abermaw seen looking down from Dinas Oleu at high tide. I had not thought of there as I had been assuming a navigable river, probably serving as a port upstream, and as the Mawddach is not navigable I had not looked closely at its mouth.
Navigable by what size of boat?
