Assuming I'm right, Google maps had a different orientation, and whilst I have time to figure out how to post an image, here's my effort, I hope.

"Cricket is just another use of the space (but it's not far from a test ground)."
Any guidance as to how far is "not far"(!)

Correct. Also a concert venue, The Beatles and Springstein have played there (amongst others).

Think we're going to need some clues. UK but not mainland and no cycling connection is my initial guess.

Looking at the slope in the N and S coasts, I reconned an east pointing peninsular, so I virtual cruise up the east coast got me to Flamborough Head near Bridlington :

Correct, the strip in my picture is Danes Dyke, a prehistoric defensive ditch. It's close to NCN1, which doesn't quite venture up the headland enough to meet it. It's close to where I grew up.

A close up to make it a bit harder!
The orientation looks correct (north to the top of the screen).

As an impatient sort, I much prefer the easier ones. I'm really not sure whether this is way too easy or way too hard, but I can provided loads of clues if required. (My username is a total red herring in this case though.)

Very very distinctive.

Here's one which is also a distinctive landscape - bonus marks for which industry made it thus.

Ah yes, I know where that is, about as far from me as it is from you. As for industry, brick? (not sure - doesn't get mentioned on the Wikipedia page).
I'll give some others a chance as I've had a few goes already.

Yes brick, causing the distinctive hummocks.

For an extra super-bonus, what form of transport used to run to this place?
