They have a RoRo ferry to Papa Westray these days. However last year they were still doing it this way on the ferry to/from North Ronaldsay....
My bike went the same way.

Yes, I think that is much of it. It is also just about my childhood. I also like the ordinariness of it all: modest bikes, ordinary clothing. All very egalitarian.
