London Edinburgh London
For those of you with access to Amazon Prime there is a nice little documentary film on there following the 2016 London Edinburgh London cycle event.
Re: London Edinburgh London
Thanks. As I've mentioned before, this last summer I had planned on being in the UK on bike and one option was visiting family in London and then riding up to see other family in Scotland. While I know nothing of this event, it will be fun to see the landscapes.
Cheers

I know LEL is as event. but to be frank and honest, I can't stand either of those places.
Sorry.

It doesn't really go to either so you needn't worry

Yep, it's more focussed on the motivations of the individuals taking part and you hardly see anything of "that there" London. There are some nice shots of the back roads of the North East and the lowlands of Scotland though.
Re: London Edinburgh London
I volunteered last time, so it'll be interesting to see this from the riders' perspective.
It was seriously hard work (some repeat vols claim its easier to rude than to volunteer at a control). I'm still debating with myself whether to volunteer at a control again.

Just finished watching, I enjoyed it, but as said focuses more on a handful of riders and why they want to do it rather than the ride and locations.

Perhaps it should be called Loughton - Dalkeith - Loughton, but then nobody will have heard of those places, but that’s where it starts/finishes and turns.
It’s a bit like Paris-Roubaix, which doesn’t actually go anywhere near Paris - it starts in Compiegne, which is 60km north of Paris.

Excellent!
I don't know Loughton, but I know Dalkeith. So long as nether of them are London or Edinburgh, that's fine by me.

I been a volunteer at five LEL's since 1996. Missed out on year 2012 Witnessing some of the suffering, especially in early years, has been a great incentive to stop me riding it.
It’s become such a big event since those early days and being a volunteer isn’t easy. I played my pensioner rights card in 2016 and didn’t do any overnights. Even three x 14 hour days looking after tired riders takes its toll.

What is it about Edinburgh you do not like?
Re: London Edinburgh London
ontheriver77 2017!!
and also honesty--focussed on riders motivation etc ??
I haven't seen it but guess this is not intended as a tourist board brochure.
What do you believe content/focus should be?
This video is perhaps a view from inside of the "peloton".
Myself, I have missed out on a lot of scenery when eyes are full of tears!!
Scenery ? the most impressed were the Italians when they saw the ski-tow on Yad Moss-they had thought England was flat!!
London start??
Do you really believe it practical to start at Charing Cross?
and ride into and out of Edinburgh?
Actually using the A1 would be less miles than current route.
Possibly the film is the work of Damion Peacock.
He has also made films of Paris/ Brest/ Paris.
WHILE HE WAS RIDING THE EVENTS.
AFAIAA 2021 is postponed to 2022.
volunteers will be needed.
I shall , inshala, be 80 then , perhaps then it will be too much for me.
MickF -You will need to be very quick to register/get an entry when opens up January 2021.
As the man says it doesn't go to London or Edinbrgh so as said earlier "fine by me".
Bonne Route.
See you at Brampton.

And how can you not stand "the Athens of the North".
Wonderful places, both.
