Can anyone advise on the condition and surface of the cycle route that follows the Stainforth and Keadby Canal between Thorne & Keadby?
Looking to do a Christmas eve 'Dales to Wolds' ride ending up at the out-laws. Will be on a road bike with 25mm road tyres. Not much daylight then so I wish to make rapid'ish progress
Cheers, Harry

Re: Thorne to Keadby by Canal Path
Sorry, can't answer your specific query but, given winter conditions, and on 25mm tyres, in your position I'd definitely use the road route. The A18 is not very heavilly trafficked, has good sightlines, and is fairly wide. Also, you can use parallel roads to the A18 for much of the way. The bit I like least is Keadby Bridge itself - and you could always use the footway!
Hope this map transmits OK:

Much of it was resurfaced the other year - apparently as "a 2.1 metre wide surfaced towpath, finished with local blast furnace slag dust". I've not visited for several years (and last time I was there was on a boat, not a bike) but it sounds promising.

Thanks Ray & Richard for your advice
My plan now is to cut east of Thorne on one of the minor roads and have a look at the path and if I'm not happy will then cut south to use either the A18 or the parallel road south of the M180
Cheers, Harry
