I'd suggest that is a good idea whatever the situation re whoever is operating the site. Ignoring specifics about current challenges and issues, there must always be a degree of risk that any operator might lose interest or have to spend time earning a living or hundreds of possibilities and to have all your efforts beyond your control should anything happen would seem an avoidable risk.
I treat my own web site as much as a diary/personal record as anything else so making sure it isn't subject to vagaries of others is something I ensure - in my case by operating my own web site.
Note: Archive.org (waybackmachine) is something I've found a bit of a "pain" so have actually blocked them from my own site - so if said individual is into blocking others something he may easily do (which means if he takes it all down tomorrow, no independent copies around to recover your stuff through). Issues I had were with un-throttled access causing loading issues. But also, for larger sites, maybe bandwidth from e.g. archive.org might be a consideration leading to blocking.
