And yet, when they did finally block an export, some people switched from calling them "toothless" to whining that the EU was being anticompetitive or protectionist and starting a trade war over vital medicines during a health crisis. They cannot win, can they? Or in other words: what would you want them to do now? Most vaccine from EU is exported!
How many denied exports: NULL
The EU is what we call here a toothless tiger.
I doubt it was the crisis management because the CDU's current coalition partner, the SPD, held their seats in both Rheinland-Pfalz and Baden-Württemberg.This bad crises management in Germany becomes a real problem for the government parties, especially for the CDU (Merkel party).
Last weekend we had elections in two states, and CDU was the big looser!
In addition there are some bribe affairs in CDU and CSU (bavaria), concerning
aquisition of protection masks.
In autumn we will have elections for whole Germany, and I fear that we can get
an instable situation.
Actually, I disagree with the above assessment: in BW the CDU did not lose any seats: they lost 3% of the votes, but the big loser was the far-right AfD (Alternative for Germany) who lost 5½% and 6 seats. In RP, the CDU lost 4 seats, but AfD lost 5 seats and more votes than CDU too.
The biggest winners in RP were the Free Voters, a centrist localist group, winning 6 seats and entering the state parliament for the first time. The Greens gained 4 seats in RP and 11 in BW - they could be said to be big winners in general and they are broadly supportive of the covid measures, as well as pushing hard for an "ecological modernity" recovery plan also intended to reduce wealth inequality, as they point out that the poor have suffered more from covid.
