So it will be up to the developers to come with something that runs on old ones as well.

Interesting. It does look like things are easing.

I have decided to do the leg from Aberdeen to Lerwick of the Eurovelo 12 route aka north sea coast, in mid July, for 2 weeks. I still think it's too early to commit to any European adventures.

Trains, hotels, airbnb, campsites and northlink ferries to Shetland Islands all booked. Just need confirmation from Shetland Bods.

Midges and rain await!

It is obvious that travelling is not a good idea at this moment in time. On the other hand, and given the rapid rate of vaccination in much of the EU, and the already low infection rate in e.g. Germany, this is bound to change pretty soon. With the current planning the EU may even complete its vaccination drive before the UK, at least for the time being. For now, Gemany has already announced important relaxations for those who have been vaccinated. Conversely, the rise in the UK of the number of the 'Indian' mutation may force EU countries to ban traffic from the UK.
So all this only serves to underscore that only time will tell. At the same time I do believe all these plans underestimate what a game changer vaccination will be.

Already enjoying my summer holidays. A week in the Breamish Valley, 40 minutes drive from home. Great weather, marvellous walking and scenery, some good cycling, excellent wildlife - curlews, lapwing, dippers, grey wagtail, grouse, red squirrels. Still some snow high up. Iron Age forts and settlements to explore.

I can’t think of anywhere I would rather be.

There is quite a lot of it and with differing rules. I'm only going by media releases AKA spin, but North Yorkshire seemed to be the place where government covid guidance was rigorously enforced as though it were the law. That policing by social media has switched to drink/driving and speeding motorcyclists.
