Mark Beaumont's New Career

Post by simonhill »

I never thought of Mark B as a touring cyclist, but he certainly travelled far. Looks like he has changed career direction now.

Oh dear. Assuming verbatim, he's been on the 'business gobbledygook' training course. Standby for 'synergy' and 'hollistic'... :?

You would think a Queens award would be the icing on the cake wouldn't you?
Athlete........I got lost with the rest of the mumbo-jumbo.
He's probably an altogether guy.

I'm sure he'll do very well, the sort of drive that's led to his cycling success, both in terms of achievement and promotion, will probably stand him well in any career. There are those who object to the commercialisation of his cycling, but he wasn't the first and it was going that way with or without him.

I can’t say that I blame him. He is/was an adventure cyclist but he’s already cycled around the world, cycled the Americas and done an Africa end to end. There’s really not much more he could do.

My son was a UK Pro cyclist for about 9 years, but eventually came to a decision that he had better prospects in the corporate world, so he gave up his cycling career. Very few people make enough money out of cycling to make a decent living.

Julian Sayarer will be quietly feeling more justified about his tirade following his 'Not for Charity' ride that broke Mark's original around the world record. Link to the tirade below:

I met Mark for 10 mins in the Braemar carpark 3 years ago.
I had just returned from a short trip in Ethiopia, so we chatted about the Nile gorge.
He struck me as a very friendly guy and I was over the moon to met him.
I wish him well.

He mentions in his books that he was hoping to start a journalism career off the back of his cycling adventures, but despite working on the commonwealth games it didn’t seem to go anywhere else. I thought this was a shame as he’s always come across as a genuine guy, but I imagine there are a lot of adventurers competing for a tiny number of presenting roles.

Everyone needs to pay the bills and I wish him all the best

I attended one of his post RTW/80 days talk shows a couple of years ago. For people who like this stuff it was a great night. He is a very good presenter who had a great story to tell. He hung around chatting for ages afterwards.

Good luck to him.

I saw him on one of his tours last year in Chelmsford, just before the virus hit us. He was excellent and I really enjoyed his stories about his travels and records.
However at 38 he now has a young child and who can blame him for wanting to support his family, whatever he does.
Good luck to him, I say.

Ditto
I met Mark before and after a presentation he did in Tunbridge Wells after his first world record.
Smashing fella who also has a lovely mum.
I too wish him well.

He seems to be featuring quite a bit in the features/documentaries section of the new GCN+ service.
