Advice on buying Trek 520

Post by magpie »

Hi all,

I've been looking for a new/used touring frame, was assuming I'd try find a Long Haul or Disc Trucker somewhere but then this ad just popped up (sort of) in my area. Would this be a good price for a basically unused 520 from 2020? With upgraded front dyno/usb charger/light system.

That’s expensive: new price is £1450.

Asking price is 1500 euros which equates to £1300.

Another example of increasing prices as, a couple of years ago, the bike was £1100 ish.

It’s a nice bike though: got a good review in Cycling Plus.

Yeah sounds about right. Reckon I'll leave it a while and if it remains unsold see if he'll be knocked down a bit. Thanks for the advice

With the upgrades and included gear, the price is not bad. It is a fairly new bike. The Panniers alone are 160 new.
If I were in the market, I would make an offer of 1400 and see where it goes.
I wish it were as easy as riding a bike

Consider the Kona Sutra which has slightly wider tyre clearances, better spec and is a little cheaper (new)

Agree: I’ve got an older Kona Sutra, and it’s a very nice disc brake tourer.
