We are considering a tour in Bavaria - next year, if…

Our route, at the mo, would be from Lake Constance to Salzburg. Any advice on the route and cheaper, smaller campsites? We are not interested in places with pools, clubhouses etc. They aren’t a no no but we prefer smaller and don’t really want to pay for things we won’t use.

Thanks in advance.

There is a signed route, the Koenigsee Route (https://www.bodensee-koenigssee-radweg.de/de/startseite), from Lindau heading east along the Germam/Austrian border which takes in the likes of Neuschwanstein, Chiemsee and Berchtesgaden which is just a handful of miles from Salzburg. The Bikeline guide is excellent and there are plenty of campsites along the way. I've used sites at Immenstadt, near Fussen, Bad Tolz, Chiemsee and Koenigsee none of which were too posh!. The nearest camping to Salzburg i found was just to the south of the city towards Hallein at Au.

I can find the exact details but i don't have them immediately to hand, pm me if you have specific q's

I wouldn't go if you like beer. Virtually impossible to find drinkable beer in Bavaria.

Tried Andechser Dunkel? Two of those with your Schweinshaxe and your riding's done for the day.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

There are recent discussions about Lake Constance and about from the Danube to the Rhine:

I have looked at the Brompton/Bodensee post but we do not want to go round Lake Constance (we think).

The Danube? I don’t think the Danube goes that way does it?

Yes, I did catch on. I used to love Bavarian beers, Franziskaner Dunkel in particular. Funnily enough, though, when a chum from Munich brought me a 12-pack it was Pilsner Urquell.

Ever tried deep-fried Allgäuer Camembert with red currants?
Have we got time for another cuppa?

We rode that way in 2018 as part of a trip from Zug to Vienna and back, riding along the south shore of Lake Constance and then through southern Bavaria until crossing back into Austria to get to Salzburg. Here are links to the GPS recordings off my Garmin for the days between Winterthur and Salzburg.

Winterthur to Kreuzlingen: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2995196195
Kreuzlingen to Bregenz: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2997662805
Bregenz to Immenstadt: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3000758611
Immenstadt to Roßhaupten: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3003253846
Roßhaupten to Weilheim in Oberbayern: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3005747658
Weilheim in Oberbayern to Miesbach: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3008595153
Miesbach to Siegsdorf: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3011169197
Siegsdorf to Salzburg: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3013358835

Ignore that Garmin Connect identifies these all as gravel/unpaved cycling - there was the occasional section of unsealed cycle route along farm roads, but the great majority was on sealed backroads/cycle routes. We stayed in hotels/apartments, so can't help with information on camping.

If you're not 100% wedded to Konstanz, then you could fly to Muenchen and ride the Isar Radweg south until it meets with the Radweg previously mentioned. May be easier going via a large hub.

Regarding transport out. We will be driving. Not welded to the route I said but it seemed a start.
