Ferry Across the Mersey on a Sunday

Post by Steve X »

We are thinking of getting the Train from Liverpool to Chester then cycling back along Route 56 :D
To cross the Mersey we would appear to have to use the Ferry, or Swim
Is the only ferry service on a Sunday a Cruise, I suspect the the cruise would fail us on two counts, cost £11 x 2 and I suspect a surfeit of Gerry and his Pacemakers.
Does anyone know if there is another service on a Sunday please?

Alternatively can anyone suggest a nice tour of The Wirral?

Thank you, that looks an option £3.25 for 3 minutes  , but as avoids swimming and Gerry, money well spent.

Overshoot the ferry terminal and head into Birkenhead and just jump the train back at Conway Park (West Kirby New Brighton Line) has big lifts right down to platform level, Hamilton square big lifts only go to bridge level, lift to platform level is tiny and needs most bikes upending.
If you do this a day saver ticket will probably be cheapest.

or £5.50 for a Merseyrail adult "Day Saver" travel card that gets you to Chester from Liverpool by train as well as by train under the river!

Thanks, all that Day Saver looks a winner. And for the tip about which station.

I never had any problems just putting my bike on any train from Wallasey Grove Road (New Brighton line) to Liverpool. No booking and no extra charge.

Steve,

I wouldn't cycle Route 56 myself. I much prefer much of Route 568 but there are other options.

What bike will you be riding I can perhaps suggest some routes as I often cycle on the Wirral and live in Chester?
