That's reassuring! The pic looks much more like I remember it from the first time I rode it (in 2011). I think the last time I must have just hit it at a bad time for FC vehicles - it honestly took about 10 minutes to get enough mud off my Bike Friday that I could ride it again.

Slightly gratuitous excuse for a pic of my bike, 'Little Merc' on the Mercian Way in 2016!

Pre-COVID19, I was planning a holiday riding the NCR45.

Looking ahead to next year, I recently had a new look at the NCR45 online map. Was very surprised to see that a section from south of Telford, thru Ironbridge, and west to near Shrewsbury is now missing from the map.

Anyone have word of an explanation?

Possibly part of Sustrans' re-grading of the national cycle network? IIRC the cycle paths out of the gorge share the (narrow, twisty, very steep) road with motor traffic, so not necessarily the funnest experience.

Here's a link to a gpx file for the whole route, in case it's any use to you:

Yes. I'm just guessing here but I strongly suspect the troublesome section was the mile on the B4380 east of Atcham, which is pretty horrid. In an ideal world there'd be a route from Ironbridge to Shrewsbury along the old railway trackbed...
