Touring priorities

Post by matt2matt2002 »

Good post running at the moment about 'learning the hard way'
Got me wondering about touring priorities.
May I suggest my own running order would be..
Brain / head - keep it clear and grounded in the face of all the bad luck / weather that comes your way
Body - keep it healthy and well fed
Bike - keep it running well.

The list goes on - but interested to hear other folks top 3 or 4
2017 Ethiopia.5 weeks.
2018 Marrakech 2 weeks.
2023 Thailand 8 weeks.
Always on a Thorn Raven/Rohloff hub.

Number 1 must be:- Get a good night sleep.

You can put up with a hell of lot of hassle/bed weather/etc if you can sleep well for long enough.

ENJOY IT!

Sums it up for me, if you fancy a diversion, short day, long day, early lunch because its a nice pub, etc then do it!

Don't get into the situation where you are simply mauling miles because its part of a plan!

Absolutely right.
Having to be at at a certain place by a certain day/time is not my idea of a break from the rigours and constraints of being at work.
I've found that the more disorganised my tour is, the more I enjoy it.
If you don't have a plan, it can't go wrong.

I tour twice a year

Once on my own in which case my organisation consists of the telephone number of the local Tourist Information Centre, and once with the wife where we book accommodation weeks in advance and a fixed itenary
