Cycling in Paris

Does anyone have any experience of cycling in Paris? I am planning to come in from the west and stay fairly centrally.

I was sent by work to Paris for a couple of days and spent an afternoon renting out on the "Velib" cycle hirer thing. I found Paris a great city to cycle in although as with all main cities it does pay for you to have eyes in the back of your head. I just wished I could have stayed longer. I would advise on getting a good map. I found it easy to find the tower (well you can't miss it) but finding my hotel afterwards was a different story
