Threaded Coleman gas canisters in France....

I'm off to Brittany in a couple of weeks and am considering stove options. Does anyone know if the threaded Coleman type gas canisters are widely available in France? I understand that they were difficult to find a few years ago, but wondered if things have changed.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know such a thing existed. Is that so I could use the blue threadless canisters?

There are various brands of them. Some Decathalon stores in France sell the threaded type and if your ever stuck go to a DIY store as they sell the gas cartridges for plumbers blowtorches which has the same thread as your stove and actually works out quiet cheap.

This is the brand usually stocked in Decathalon, different colour to the campingas cartridge but same thread

which allow you to use wither type of camping gaz cartridges.

The screw thread ones are only available in mountaineering shops or some builders merchants for use with flame guns.

I use this adapter in France as the cartridges are everywhere and cheaper than the pierceable ones. The adapter cost me about £6 on e-bay.

Yes the long canisters work, but that looks like a good adapter bigjim has shown plus its cheaper.

Mine was an import, probably China, so had to wait a couple of weeks I think for delivery. They are still on e-bay. Worked fine, used every day in France. Very stable.

A new possibility is the line of Primus Duo stoves that can use both Lindall valve screw canisters and the Camping Gaz bayonet canisters. It is a lighter solution than taking an adapter, and worth it if you do not already have a stove. There is also a Duo version of the light weight Express stove, even if the Primus website does not mention it (had it in my hands).

This adaptor is also known as the Vaude Markill Valve Cartridge Adapter, and with it, I have never had a problem with getting gas in France with most supermarkets stocking the CV270 etc.

This is NOT a good stove to use with the long thin canisters.
It has no preheat and will flare dangerously if the canister is not upright, and liquid gas gets to the burner.

The preheat is a thin section of tubing that passes through the flame between the flexible hose and the jet. It ensures that any liquid fuel is vapourised before the jet.
This Sunnflair is the cheapest a cursory google found. I use an Edelrid Opilio (with Edelrid/Vaude/Markill adapter as required), others are the Primus Express Spider, MSR Windpro
