Two years ago I went from Fort William thro' Inverness up to Tongue, Durness then down to Ullapool back to Inverness then home. Last year went up from FW to Rattagan, Skye, Applecross, Gairloch then Inverness and back home. The obvious bit missing, other than the Islands, for possibly a shorter trip is south from Oban. Has anyone any recent experience as it is an area I do not know. There appear to be some peninsular parts with just one on and off. Are they worth the effort? I normally camp or hostel. Are there any that worth including?
Did a tour earlier this year Oban, lochgilphead, Tarbert, Bute, Adrossan, Arran, Gigha, Islay, Jura, Colonsay and back to Oban. Some interesting places a long the way some not so good. Found many of the towns on Kintyre, Bute and Arran rather depressing, but the surrounding countryside was great. Gigha was a gem as was Jura. Personally from Oban I'd head west!
