tuscany accommodation concern

Post by henrik »

just about to buy my flights to pisa and decided to check out prices of cheap hostales etc in the tuscan area………..bloody hell! seems pricey
anyone have experience of this?. last year in spain i did not book anything and found cheap hostales in the towns and villages along they way. will it be the same here? or is this part of europe just too pricey?
cheers

Also try googling 'ostello toscana' and use a translator if you don't know any Italian. There are also independent hostels and budget hotels.

I'm assuming that you aren't camping (there are tons and tons of excellent campsites in Toscana).

Your best bet is to use booking.com - this seems to be the most widely used accommodation website and covers everything from hostels to B&Bs to agriturismi. Depending on when you go you should be ably to find accommodation for less than 50 euros a night.

There's an interactive map on my website showing hostels in Italy - zoom in for Toscana:

there's also a directory with website links:

You don't say when you are going - some hostels will only be open in the summer. So if say you are going in March you should always check the websites and/or phone ahead.

These include independent as well as AIG hostels, but the definitions are a bit flexible (there are hotels that are members of the AIG). in the mountains there are also rifugi.

I cycled end to end of Italy last year, and cycling from Venice to Nice via Switzerland this year. For both tours I used booking.com and have got some great deals. Averaged about 35 euro per night with breakfast and had some fantastic hotels.
