Western Isles forewarn of Surface Dress Treatment WC 12 May
Posted: 7 May 2014, 8:33pm
The Western Isles have highlighted their intentions to undertake hot tar and rolled chipping road repairs with effect from next week.
Uist - 2 weeks starting 12th May.
Harris - the following 2 weeks.
Lewis - the subsequent 2 weeks.
Please beware that this treatment process results in short term braking problems attributable to surplus/loose chippings on the road surface. The roads would normally be completely safe for cyclists after the second mechanical sweep which may be delayed until some weeks after treatment depending on the roads strategic importance. Mudguard clearance should be considered as cycle tyres with a grippy tread pattern will be prone to picking up chippings.
Please ensure that you have cycling glasses as these chippings can be thrown free from the tyres of passing cars a significant distance beyond where vehicles have encountered such works.
The Council haven't announced which roads are to be treated....
