Yes, sorry, I should have done this a couple of years ago.
I'd originally planned 100 days for the ride, thinking that we'd need to go gently because of lack of calories. As it turned out we completed the 3,359 mile ride in 66 days with a budget of £66 each (not counting the ferry). One of us had to drop out after a couple of weeks because of an old knee problem. At times it was tough but we saw some exceptionally beautiful places. In the UK we generally asked farmers if we could camp in one of their fields (and only one refused us) while on the continent we squirrelled ourselves away somewhere. We proved utterly useless at fishing but found tons of fruit, especially once we reached the continent. Surviving like that for a couple of months really makes you appreciate money - having enough rather than having lots. And I lost three stone in weight (which I've put back on since, but this year's ride begins in just over a month and so it'll all come off again - sorry, I'm babbling). All in all, it was an amazing experience and its lessons will live with me forever.
If you're interested in finding out more about the trip, there are photos on the website (
