CTC Glasgow restarting

CTC MEETING to form a
Local Membership Group
CTC Glasgow 18/01/08

Dear Glasgow & district CTC Member

Please come to a meeting to decide the future of the CTC activities in Glasgow.

A new system of ‘Local Membership Groups’ has been set up by CTC National Council. This has lead to a change in the old Glasgow DA (District Association), with it’s Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway and Clydenorth sections. Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway have now formed their own Local Groups, which means that Glasgow members have the opportunity to re-form themselves into a Local Group as well.

You may be aware that, although the regular social gatherings and use and maintenance of the Club’s Ledi Hut, under the stewardship of the Glasgow DA president Angus Walker, have continued to be popular, there is no longer an effective Glasgow cycling programme.

There is a healthy number of CTC members in the Glasgow Post Code area and several of them have taken an active part in the Ayrshire section rides, in the absence of local outings. As a cyclists’ Club we should go cycling. We have a member, Norman Runciman, who is happy to oversee the restarting of regular rides for the Glasgow area and this meeting is our chance to get something new under way. He suggests easy paced runs of 25/30 miles every third Sunday of the month, to start with.

As CTC Councillor this year, I have visited several flourishing CTC groups around Scotland. More people are taking to cycling again these days and local Club activity has a useful part to play, both on the social side and with CTC campaigning to promote cycling. Now your help is needed to make Glasgow area CTC an active group again within the new format. We need to set out how to move on, after 106 years in being, and decide who will be the office bearers; under the requirements of the CTC Local Groups handbook.

Please feel free to contact me for more details or directions.
Hope to see you on the 5th.

Peter Hayman

PS The Ayrshire Local Group asked me to lead their Main Run on 10th February. So I am bringing them north for a ride starting at 10:30 from Paisley Gilmour Street. We will go across the Erskine Bridge and up to Mugdock Country Park for lunch. The way back will use the canal and Kelvin paths, cross Bells Bridge and through Bellahouston Park. All are welcome to join this, or part of this, varied cycle in company. PJH.

Things are starting to happen in Glasgow. New member group has been established and there is a programme of rides. There was a ride on Sunday 17 Feb that attracted 25 people to enjoy the fine weather.

The next one starts outside Clarkston Station on 16 March 2008 at 10:30.

All welcome.
