Havering CTC (Upminster, Essex) - Rides for July & Aug

We have got a good selection or rides lined up for the summer including going through or around the deepest ford in Essex, a sightseeing tour, riding from Tower bridge to Greenwich and down into Kent && More!!!

We meet at 9am each Sunday in Upminster Essex, unless stated otherwise.
Upminster is only 9 min from Barking and 13mins from West Ham on the Railway.

8th July RSPB Purfleet and beyond
We will hardly touch a road between Upminster and the Rainham Marshes RSPB Nature Reserve http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/r/rainhammarshes following a surfaced path through the country pack and along the river Thames, all okay on a touring bike. We will be stopping for 11's at the RSPB visitor centre overlooking the reserve. On the ride we will also be stopping off at a small airfield where we may see the Goodyear Airship!

Being organised by the Essex CTC Member Group

22nd July Sights of London - MUST REGISTER BY 30/6.

This ride is being run by the 40 Plus Cycle Club.
You will see many of the famous London sights: The Royal Parks,
Buckingham Palace, The Mall (closed to motor traffic on Sundays), Westminster
Abbey, The London Eye, Tower Bridge and The Tower of London. You will ride a
section of the new blue cycling super highway through London's Docklands East
London.
We will have a bring-your-own picnic lunch in Hyde Park. The ride will finish at the Pavilion Café, Victoria park.

from Upminster at 9am.


29th July Heybridge Basin, Maldon, located at end of river Blackwater
Ride to Heybridge Basin, Maldon which is located at the end of the river
Chelmer & Blackwater and contains the sea lock which joins the canal to the
Blackwater estuary.
The lunch options are the two pubs there and atea room run by the famous
Tiptree Preserve Company for tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches etc. So we will be
well catered for, or riders can bring own lunch.

5th Aug Pleshey and the deepest ford in Essex
Distance circa 45miles. We will be heading to an old pub in Pleshey for
lunch. We will be coming back through Writtle where we may stop for a break by
the village green with the ducks. This ride will also take in the deepest ford
in Essex at Good Easter (there is a bridge if you don't fancy it).

12th Aug Old village of Hatfield Broad Oak
We will be stopping for lunch in a pub the old village of Hatfield Broad
Oak. This scenic village is mentioned in the Doomsday book and has some very old
buildings. Distance circa 55m.

19th Aug Tower Bridge to West Kent

Starting at Tower Bridge we will cycle along the river to historic
Greenwich, past the newly restored Cutty Sark then up to the Observatory for a
great view of London and Docklands. We will then head up to the O2 Arena
(Millenium Dome) and along to the Thames Barrier. We shall then head inland for
the quite lanes and rolling hills of West Kent.
We will be catching a train back to Central London from within Zone 6.
Distance Circa 45m. Meet time TBC.

2nd Sept All-comers ride, See below


9th Sept Battlesbridge, by River Crouch
We will be going through the quiet lanes to this village for lunch by the river. Distance Circa 60m.

All-comer Rides
1st Sunday May - Sept
6th May, 3rd June, 1st July, 5th August, 2nd September

Rides geared more to new riders. To introduce less experienced cyclists to our
group we will ride shorter distances. Rides ranging from 15 to 45 miles, with a
break half way.
Regular members will be able to carry on for the full day as normal.
