Halfords Cycling UK discount

Post by PH »

I've used this several times now, Halfords are handy for me as I pass within half a mile of two* most days at a time they're open, so slightly easier than missing a delivery and having to queue at the RM mail sorting office, a load easier than having to pick up from any of the other delivery depots.
The CUK 10% discount was announced a while back with much fanfare, but the information didn't seem to reach the Halfords stores straight away. I've bought a few bits in the last month while I'm changing my bikes around, mostly small stuff, tubes, chain, brake cables, rear light bracket. A while ago picked up a track pump which worked out £7 cheaper than I could get it elsewhere. The discount has also been applied to some cheap bits I picked up out of the end of line bin.
The information about the discount says it applies to in store prices, but I've ordered online for collection and used it, even once after I'd asked them to price match! Process is simple, the tills have a sheet of bar codes, Cycling UK is listed on it, the assistant scans it and the discount is applied.
I can't get everything, but then neither could I at the now closed LBS. Those items I've needed to order elsewhere have been from the sort of specialised supplier that are thriving online, Spa and SJS in particular.

* One Halfords and the other a Cycle Republic

It's sad that CUK hasn't a deal with Association of Cycle Traders or some other local bike shop network, instead of copying BC and promoting this big box chain that refuses to pay into the Bike Hub fund.

I struggled to get the CUK discount at the Halfords in Llandudno on an online order. The assistant searched the book for the CUK bar code but could not find one. Eventually, as a "favour", he used the BC code instead and I got the discount. I phoned Halfords' head office to complain and they said that if I have any trouble in future I should quote this number to the assistant: 0449 7997.

Needed to replace the chain on my recumbent trike and did a last minute check to see what price Halfords were offering as I knew I should be able to get the 10% discount, Result not only was the chain £5 cheaper than where I would have gone but I also got the 10% discount.

That's useful to know rotavator. In Derby it took a while for the shops to sort it out, I know several people who had issues in the first few weeks, but I don't know anyone who didn't get the discount and it's all sorted now.

Is the discount only for cycling related items?
