The assembly required is usually to turn the handlebars, insert seatpost and attach pedals, plus sometimes fit the front wheel. I've seen bikes delivered in boxes that don't look like they've been opened in the UK. There's a bike shop near me that offers a set up service for bikes bought from the discounters, I think they charge £60 if all goes well.
