If Urmston's accessible to you then you could try Eddie McGrath Cycles; I've personally had excellent service from them. Also some suggestions that aren't personal recommendations but I've heard good things about Ken Fosters Cycle Logic (Chorlton), Pop Up Bikes in Corporation Street and the revolveMCR mobile workshop (there's a call out charge if they come to you; better value if you have 2+ bikes to service/repair).

was made aware of zombie activity by ctc member. was hoping my rant and comeback cooldown could become legendary. but alas not.
it lives anyway.

bothered me a bit since.

you want to play zombie thread.

RRP £399

carbon fork £399 i spit my beer on the keyboard.

find me same ratio cranks of made anything but cheese.
at a price someone buys a bike for £399 would be happy to pay.
we dont fit rubbish. point of fact.

BSO not even interested in arguing.
unless your in somewhere horrid and a working bso makes you king of village or something? in which case stop your internet payments and but a proper bike. your opinion doesnt count.

I bet this bike is no more.

wasn't asround for the original thread but am now and have recently become a customer of Harry Halls for a brand new Brompton, in November. I'd bought bits and bobs from there before but nothing major.

The bike has been back into them 3 times, the front brake fell to bits mid ride (200 miles), the gear cable slipped totally (500) & a broken spoke (700).

I'd agreed with the sales staff on purchasing that it would come in for its free check over after Christmas even though it would be nearer 500 than 200 miles by then. The brakes landing on the road put a stop to that and the mechanic was as surprised and concerned as I was and kept the bike overnight to give it a full checkover and tightening/tweaking free of charge and with apologies.
Both of the others could be bad set up by the shop or poor wheel balancing in the first place by Brompton (or whoever they source wheels from if not in-house) or just as likely wear and tear of me using the bike for 15+ of not straightforward, not flat, not cruising miles daily regardless of the weather, and my not checking (the cable particularly) having been seduced by the Bombproof Brompton hype.

both the cable fixed on the spot FOC and the spoke overnight £11 supplied and fitted I have no complaints about, nor the offer of my next service free for the inconvenience / unluckiness of getting a Friday afternoon bike.

I've no gripes with HH's level of customer or technical service and got my bike cleaned, lubed, tightened and tweaked for free the other week. (anon mechanic: I nearly went over the bars with the extra bite you got out of the brakes  )

If anything it has caused me to re-evaluate my assumption of the 'bombproof' Brommy as a bike you can ride, fold, store and not give a second thought to in between doing the same again and realise I need to keep the same sort of eye on it as I do with my others. I wonder if other people do take the longevity and robustness of modern bikes, even quite low end ones, for granted as it isn't like it was when I was a kid and twisting barrel adjusters every ride or pumping up tyres all the time.

As for attitude, there is another near the city centre bike shop who will happily quote stupid prices or claim a (difficult but) repairable part is irreparable and needs replacing with new which I can only assume is because they don't fancy taking a job on. It's happened more than once to me now and has put me off using them anymore.
