Spa Cycles (Harrogate)
Re: Spa Cycles (Harrogate)
A bit of a lumpy one this time :-
3rd Jan - I ordered a couple of rims and three other items
Usual online order confirmation emails received . . .
Two weeks later - nothing . . . no money taken : no communication . . .
An email to enquiries@ received no reply ( until after matters were resolved )
A phone call was met with a "can I call you back in 5 minutes". No return call received.
A second phone call the following day led to the resolution of the problem :-
One clothing item was out-of-stock & discontinued . . . and thus the Order sat in the "unfulfulled" black hole.
The Recovery was good though :
I received rest of the items the following morning, by courier
Then, I also received an email reply to the one I sent ( above ) with an apology for the delay.

I ordered about £25worth of bits and pieces from Spa Cycles today, over the phone because I wasn't near a PC and wanted to get the order in. When I asked about payment by credit/debit card, I was told not to bother, they'd send the items out with an invoice, and to just stick a cheque in the post when it was convenient! ..... When I can't even fill my car with petrol round here without paying for it in advance, and when off licences are manned from behind plastic fortifications, this came as a shock, albeit a very welcome one!!
Have bought from Spa before. I agree - they're top notch.

Clearly visible from here. OK, only 30 or so miles from me in W. Yorks - but isn't the internet thingy international ?

Well, on this account anyway Graham.
See you all when my ban ends
Re: Spa Cycles (Harrogate)
On Sunday afternoon I ordered online one of their excellent value triple chainsets and BB which, with a pair of self extracting crank bolts, came to exactly £50 and qualified for free delivery.
Postie brought it this morning.
Top service (as usual IME)

I ordered a Gilles Berthoud Galibier saddle on Monday morning (18/3/2019), and it was delivered to me in Suffolk, by tracked courier, at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday. Excellent service, and a very competitive price for said article as well.
Hats off to Spa.

Re: Spa Cycles (Harrogate)
Spa is OK as a rule, no better or worse than many others. But I got let down badly with a thoroughly crap deal on a new Spa Titanium Audax. A lot of things about it were wrong - worst being sand-blasting sand left in the frame which didn't make itself apparent until the steering started seizing, potentially lethally. I was slow complaining having been away from cycling following an injury, but got fobbed off with just a token "gift".
Haven't bought anything from them since and won't be doing!
I find this thread a bit pathetic - you shouldn't be grateful if a supplier simply fulfils an order in reasonable time - they all do that fairly well.
PS Another expensive failing was the SRAM Apex gear set which basically didn't work well from new and eventually one of the levers failed completely. They were rubbish and I see they are discontinued.I replaced them from other sources, getting no joy from Spa.

Do we run threads in support of other bike shops? If not why not?
I got some excellent brake blocks from Wiggle, by the next post! Marvellous! Over the moon! Miraculous! I'm sooo excited!!
