Thanks all for a very enjoyable ride. Well planned route, although we did our best to execute it badly.

So it was flat then?
50miles should have been 5000ft of climbing or thereabouts.

This year up until today, my milage has (only) been 1765.54miles
Total ascent was 183,283ft

That's 103.8ft per mile.

Normal for me. :D

I think it's a case of Superman. V Wimps although there were a couple of riders there who kept looking for the hills and talking about going over the Alps and dropping 70miles to Nice
As a gentle get to know your fellow riders it was a great route and a great success

Maybe we just enjoy cycling Mick, rather than suffer from it ..... :D
The comedian John Bishop said that going fishing all day was a Yorkshiremans way of asking for a divorce.
Do they do things differently in Cornwall ........

Sorry, I do get carried away with stats and stuff.

It's just that if you want to do a LEJOG you need to start in Cornwall and go through Devon.
To do LE to Okehampton for instance, along the preferred route as described, it'll be be 100miles thereabouts. Many folk do that on the first day.

Not done it all the way LE to Oke on the preferred route, but I have done it the other way ............. and it's down hill that way.
100.22miles and 6,569ft of ascent = 65.5ft per mile. This is from my actual records.

Same route the other way (using BikeHikeUK), has it at 103miles and 7,500ft = 72.8ft per mile
I'm willing to bet that it's actually over 80ft per mile.

Moral:
Be Prepared.

As a wimp the figures are a bit frightening I'm beginning to wonder if I can cope with the first few days, maybe time for a rethink

Don't let me put you off.
It's just a slog. The hills aren't monumental, just frequent.

I just want to make the point that the hills are there, and you need to get your head round the fact that the numbers per mile are higher.
Once you leave Devon, the hills smooth out fine.

We are in no hurry. We've split our original first 3 days now into 4, so no day has more than 3750 foot of climbing or 65 miles length - whichever comes sooner - days 1 and 2 are just 50 miles and have a total of 7100 foot climbing, days 3 and 4 are around 60 miles but have less climbing than we did yesterday. As we showed yesterday, it's not a race, it's about all arriving at the end point and encouraging each other through the tough bits and as long as we get to the pub before closing time we never need to be at Loggerheads again :D

TWO DAYS ADDED to WIMPS LEJOG
After thinking about the daily rides it will be a much more enjoyable and for old legs easier ,ride if we reduced the mileage or climbing on the difficult days by extending the ride by two days .
This means leaving lands end on the 23rd June as originally planned And finishing at John o Groats on the 6th July.
Some of the overnight stops may need to be changed and minor alterations made to the route to get to them.
If anyone feels that they would like to join us Please let me know as soon as possible .
Errors corrected
