As a matter of interest why was that? A Raven would be top of many people's lists. If you wanted a lighter bike for a quicker ride then that would still be a legitimate reason for getting one (as long as you kept the Raven of course!).
Yes. I'll be keeping the Raven no mater what.
My employer has been promoting the cycle to work scheme so that got me looking at less heavy bikes etc. etc.
2017 Ethiopia.5 weeks.
2018 Marrakech 2 weeks.
2023 Thailand 8 weeks.
Always on a Thorn Raven/Rohloff hub.

I used a Specialized Tricross in 2013, old faithful.
Re: What bike did you use?
I used a specialized Sirrus comp. It's not really intended for fully loaded touring but it copes OK.
I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my MotoG3 using hovercraft full of eels.

Re: What bike did you use?
I used a fairly rubbish Raleigh with cheap components and low quality wheels that had spokes breaking every 200 miles or so. Your Thorn is leagues better. I'd stick with the Thorn and treat yourself to some really good, fast tyres. Marathon Supremes, perhaps.

ARTHUR CAYGILL Touring bike...Back in 1997 and again in 1998...
Re: What bike did you use?
Why did you not finish last year, loafer?
Re: What bike did you use?
I can't speak for LEJOG, but my 1968 tour of the South West, 3 weeks and about 600 miles, using Youth Hostels and a big saddle bag (aged 14), was completed with my best mate on a Phillips straight bar bike with 3 Benelux derailleur gears.
Re: What bike did you use?
I used a Genesis Tour de Fer 10 for my (solo unsupported) trip this summer. It was a great bike (flat handlebars which won't suit everyone) but I wish I'd had the rear wheel rebuilt before going as several spokes broke (but then I'm not exactly a lightweight cyclist! ).

That was my experience back in the late 1980s, and since then I have never toured on a bike that doesn't have a well maintained rear wheel with 36 properly tensioned spokes.
Re: What bike did you use?
Lejog and equivalent rides;
a £20 clunker of a bike shaped object (bought from a neighbour)
a £120 Dawes Horizon (bought from someone on this Forum, cannot remember who)
a £100 Claud Butler (bought from Cash Converters)
and then onto better bikes;
Dawes One Down, bought frame from someone on here and built it up

Re: What bike did you use?
I'm just starting my initial phase of planning for a future LEJOG or JOGLE which is why I've been reading this forum.
Reading the above I found it interesting that AndyJ mentioned broken spoke issues with his Genesis bike.
I have a 2014 Genesis Day One Alfine 8 and yesterday I suffered from what is now my third broken spoke on the rear wheel in the last 8 months. I'm not a heavy rider, 11 stone, and it seems that there are potentially some issues with the stock wheels that come with Genesis bikes.
I guess you just can't beat a decent hand built wheel.

Flushed down the thunderbox : my MotoG3 using hovercraft full of eels.
Specialized Sirrus Elite for me. Panniers, but we stayed in B&Bs.
