Lejog for wimps please- or am I on my own? ( merged )

Post by sbcoombs »

Just been confirmed that I have to have more surgery on my shoulder at the end of the month. I will be off the bike until late May so will be limited for training time.

I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my stupid phone.

I know the Turbo is boring buts its the only thing I have been doing since falling in November, Its better than nothing and probably is about 90 % effective as a road ride.
Recumbent trainers are common nowadays too, if support is a problem.

I'm still ill, though coming out of it very slowly. I've lost stamina completely. My get up and go, has got up and gone. I'm a shadow of my former self. I can do stuff gently for a couple of hours, then all I want t do is sit down for the rest of the day and keep warm.

Some nights I've been in bed at 6pm, others - like last night - I turned it at 10ish. Some afternoons I've retired at 2ish to get up again in the early evening to go back to bed by 9ish.

Very little appetite. I've probably lost weight from not eating.

Dreaded Lurgy.

There's absolutely dozens of us locally with it. Some have escaped it, and others like me have been ill for a month or more. Cold flu-like symptoms, with coughs and headaches. I had sinusitis too. Some day's I could hardly move with aching limbs and back let alone the headaches. Some folk have had it and it's lasted a week or so, others have had it and they could carry on normally, and others have been bed-ridden with it. The annual flu jab seems not to have any bearing on it whatsoever.

Cycling ....... or riding on my rollers ............. is totally out of the question. Even going for a decent walk is too much effort.

I can type of course :D but concentrating is quite difficult and hard work.

Now there’s an obvious suggestion I hadn’t thought of. I reckon my local gym has those recumbent trainers and it’s only a mile away so I can walk.

Thanks for the suggestion NA.

Looking at the Strava stat's some of the group are getting out & some not, including myself. My last ride was 10 days ago and I don't know when the next foray will be. I have some form of strange "lurgy" with intermittent sneezing, runny nose and chesty cough. I can go for a few hours without a sign and then have a sneezing bout. Not sure if the cough is brought on by the cold air but again only now and then. Things seem to be easing so hopefully by the end of the week may stand a chance of resuming some cycling.
Only 19 weeks to the GO.
You'll never know if you don't try it.

Looking on Strava there’s one man does enough miles for all of us
This lurgy sounds very similar to one I suffered with this time last year. Felt like my lungs had ceased to work and was out of breath at 90bpm. Worse in cold weather too. Went on so long I visited the doc who said my lungs sounded clear. All seemed to clear as the temperature rose with the spring.
Whatever I am, wherever I am, this is me. This is my life

From your lips to God's ears.

Definitely better when I'm warm. Definitely awful when I'm cold.
Warmth is good. Fire lit and heating on. Good. :D
