It's a good job we are doing it this year as I might have need to renew my passport with Brexit taking place in March 2019 - is there border control coming out of Cornwall?

You have pm Mick.

As you cross the Tamar on the Old A30 into England, you climb the hill towards Lifton Down. As you leave Polson Bridge and see the Welcome to Devon sign, there's another one there announcing that you're on the Trafalgar Way.

Interesting story about the aftermath of the Battle of Trafalgar and how they got the news to London about the victory and the sad loss of Nelson. Just shows you how old the Old A30 actually is.

Thinking about June ...................
We will be in the throes of house improvements this spring/summer so I can't do much of the ride with you all. We'll have the builders in.

I intend to meet up with you in Camelford on your way through, and escort you over the border.

Questions:
1. What time will you be leaving St Columb in the morning of Sun 24th June so I can time my ride to Camelford?
2. Where are you staying in the Okehampton area?
2. What time are you leaving Okehampton Mon 25th June so I can time my ride to meet you?

It would be lovely if you for you to join us Mick and if it happens to be a headwind I’m sure everyone will remember your offer to ‘lead’ us over the border.

I have no desire to fight through rush hour traffic so would prefer a +9am start but am happy to go with the flow.

I'd agree with 9:00+ start as well.
Days 2 and 3 the mileages are low at 50 and 60 so should be no need to rush.

Just come home after (only) 36.3miles, but I climbed 3,783ft.
That's a tad over 104ft ft per mile.
I'm knackered.

Mind you, I'm looking for the hills .

How long did it take you Mick. I had considered an average 10mph on a very hilly ride so 6-7 hours riding daily for us. Do you think this optimistic?

Those being collected from the 4 winds for transport to Cornwall, I need the post code of your collection point and contact numbers asap ... pm is fine ..

Also need a list of those who wish to leave a vehicle at the Ponderosa Campsite Redruth for the duration of the ride.

It is our intention to put up a large (10 + person) tent at the Ponderosa site for those stopping the night before the start to save messing about with individual tents .... and its much cheaper ....

We will be on site from the 20th and accommodation will be available from then.

I left Plymouth at 10:20.
I'd taken the train there like I do from time to time. The route down to the city isn't too good these days as they've "improved" the road and junctions and it's not nice.

I went east out of the city onto the Kingsbridge road and turned north just before Modbury to go up through Ermington ............ that's when the hills started. It's a long way up to Ivybridge and beyond, and then going up the outer edges of Dartmoor and Lee Moor over Cadover Bridge.
I stopped for the first time (other than junctions) at Cornwood to scoff a cheese sarnie that I'd taken. That was at 11:50 and 17miles.

I plodded on over the moors and dropped down into Yelverton to pay a visit to the loos, and have a breather too. That was at 12:45 and 26miles. Then down through Horrabridge to Tavistock, then over the hills to home ..................... actually, I stopped for a few beers at the pub! I arrived there at 13:30.

That ride gave me an average moving speed 12.6mph and 2hrs 52min of cycling. Total time Plymouth Station to Home was 4hrs 16mins ............ but that included three pints of Dartmoor Legend. :D If you count the overall time to the pub rather than home, it took 3hrs 10mins.

Thanks Mick. So, as we are Wimps, 10mph plus beer stop time seems reasonable. If we stop for too many beers though, I can see a steady midnight queue for the facilities.
