I'll find out tomorrow if Argos can repair it in time. If not, well I knew having a "few" spare bikes would come in useful. I just have to work out which to prepare....unfortunately they're all modern so my plan to ride with both me and the bike over 60 isn't a goer......Having surveyed the garage I'm currently thinking Pompino, I've done quite a few miles on it, including today's ride....Image

Sorry, can't offer any advice for companies, because I reckon they ALL want some sort of "angle" to their business plan.
Dartmoor, is just one of them.
If you want to do these places .......... like you say ............ go and do them as a separate thing some other time.

I've done End2End a few times, but never with an organised group, though I have been on the support team with one. Thier angle was doing the ride in five days. Stupid, I know, but they did it. Many folk have done it in five days over the years, and some less than five days. Personally, I like eleven days, and I like a the flattest route to do it. I can give you my route, but if you want a support team behind you, I think you are going to be out of luck.

I often think about going on a supported ride, but going my own route, and only joining up at each day's destination.
Maybe you could consider that?
There can't be any rule about following their route faithfully, so long as you start and finish each day at the correct place.

Hello Mick,

I'm interested in your 11 day flat route you mention please. I made it north of Kendal on 5th day 10 years ago, but my back gave out so couldn't complete the journey. As cumbersome as they are, I'm planning to use a battery bike this time round, though it will only be switched on when the back whinges.

Many thanks
Laurie

Beer breaks too. :D

First time End2End for me was in 1994 as a JOGLE.
My ship was in Faslane and I took a couple of weeks off work. I rode into Helensburgh to stay with friends overnight and was taken to Glasgow Queen Street station the next morning. I took the train to Inverness and then to Wick. I then cycled to Canisbay SYHA to stay overnight.

Next morning, I cycled to JOG then south to Helmsdale SYHA, then Inverness SYHA, Pitlochry SYHA, Edinburgh SYHA, Carlisle YHA, Arnside YHA, my sister's house in Wrexham, then Malvern Hills YHA, Street YHA, home here in Gunnislake, then down to LE ........... and was driven home.

You know Mick I've often wondered if it was feasible for a bunch of like minded people to get together, plan there own route avoiding the longer hills and make as short as possible route. They could maybe approach one of the tour groups to organise the actual ride or better yet organise there own transport and accommodation. Ah well one can butdream

I'm leaving here and riding via Launceston and out on the Egloskerry road heading west. Sunday morning 24th June.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egloskerry
The route the Wimps are following is of my suggestion, so they should be coming up through Camelford and turning east to the A395 and then left towards Egloskerry. This will take them on the road to St Stephens and to Launceston before joining the Old A30 for Okehampton.

My plan it head towards them and see the eleven of them coming towards me. I'll then be escorting them out of Cornwall and into England and Okehampton, then heading south to home. Should be home for tea time and beer.

Following morning - 25th - heading back to Okehampton to meet them as they leave, and to escort them into Somerset to their next stop at Taunton. From there, I'm taking the 19:51 train home via Plymouth to Gunnislake, arriving at Gunny after 10pm .............. so I'll need lights to freewheel home down the famous Gunnislake Hill ..................... and into a local establishment for a well-earned beer ...... or three. :D

"escorting them out of England into England and Oakhampton "
How does that work then ?

Cornish people consider themselves Cornish and not English. Just my idea of a lighthearted addition to the trip.
You cross the River Tamar (pronounced Tamer) over Polson Bridge just east of Launceston and into Devon, England.

This is the Old A30 and the sign says it's the Trafalgar Way, named after the the route taken to take the news to London of the Battle and of the death of Nelson.

Any idea where I can get a dozen water pistols I woke up in fright last night after a nightmare  a big weirdo jumped out in front of the wimps as we were riding quietly along a country road. I want to be prepared in case it happens for real

That reminds me of when we were kids we used bicycle pumps as water pistols.
A bucket of water, a standard bike pump, dip pump in water and suck up. Aim and fire.
Ruined many a pump.
You'll never know if you don't try it.
