I've decided it's not only getting the miles into your legs, but also getting the miles into your mind. Trouble is there's no room left for the feet of ascent! So I'll try and forget about them! I'm going to come prepared and hone my fitness in the early days of the ride so after the first 14 days or so I'll be good to go!

I rode yesterday and today totalling 48.42miles.
Looking at the total ascent, I've done 5,618ft of climbing.

That's 116ft per mile.

Can anyone beat that?

Those hills are trying to kill you off Mick F! How many feet did you descend?

That’s lumpy! I’m not sure I did any more that that riding across the Alps.

No!
But I did ride 47.3 miles yesterday.........finish average speed a miserly 11.8 or so, four hours in the saddle on a slice of toast and weak coffee.
Started ok, 38 " gear on a 1:5/6 hill no problem.
At my local forest cycling trail decided to ride three courses :)
1st was quite easy as its for children walkers and tots with stabilisers :?
2nd was rather bumpy and was struggling with the rough terrain trying to stay on the narrow path, flints are fist sized :(
3rd then call "Ridge", had to foot several times as I ran out of gears was confused as to where to put my hands and shall I or shan't I tough out out or walk on the steps :P
My 14 mph at 19 miles in dropped to 10 something after 29 miles :(
I was disappointed to see the centre shop closed as I was going to lodge a complaint that the course was badly maintained.....had to keep stopping to check my loose change was still their........forget that...........I need a claim form for damages to my bike, and loss of fillings...............have done course on same bike many times before...But...no one told me they have changed the trails and cut big holes in the top trail adding big rock steps for good measure

Was shattered and still am, still thinking about my thrupenny bit wheels, but thankful I only had one pannier on bike as they had narrow gates around the trail where you have to wheelie bike by hand.

Undecided whether the close ratio cassette was a good idea and those randonneur bars are crippling not to mention bar end shifters cleverly placed near knees............29 ers are not that fast either :)

Today my hands and wrists hurt, legs feel like I have bench pressed a truck, I feel like I ran a marathon and energy is non existant.
I have a local course which though only 29 miles is 148' of climb, it includes a portion which is so steep I passed on (chickened) apparently its one quarter of a Vuelta hard day.................

Oh the bike looks used.....

Edited Ah.......talking out me ..........38" not 50"

Wimps Strava
I have done 140 miles this week the most this year and I can't even get in the top three.
John100 managed 250m I suspect his training session with Paulatic a couple of weeks ago has paid off
Flash did the longest ride
Softlips was well up with the leaders
Kev and John B completed the leaderboard
As cycleruk would say only 40 days to the start.
Memo to self try harder still
I'm not getting older, just gaining more experience

140 miles is a big improvement Ken. If the sun stays out you have plenty of time.
I can already see someone sneaking out at the end of every day in our ride to get the most Strava miles.

A quiet week for me as I could get out at the weekend.

Hi,
250 miles a week is probably overdoing it for a 75 mile a day tour.
Sure your team won't end up split into two, the speedy gang and the we will get their on timers :)

In every group I’ve ever cycled with there are always some people who cycle faster than other people. If those that cycle quickly stop cycling, start eating and putting on some weight, i still don’t think we would all cycle the same speed. It’s inevitable no matter what.
Have you some secret handicapping training formula you can share with the group? BTW if it entails sweat you frequently refer to then I’m not interested :)

Splitting only into two  . More like four
With a group of 12 maybe we will have to split to allow vehicles chance to pass in safety, for us, especially on the main roads. I am sure there will be natural groups and whoever is at the cafe first will get the coffee and cakes in.
11 out the possible 12 were on Strava last week so things are hotting up. (14.C this morning  )

My other half was away last week so I wanted to get some miles in more to see if I could do it day after day! Still not so sure! I've joined her this week so won't be doing that many! I'm pleased I can keep the pedals turning - I'm not fast.
