I’ll be using the trusty Planet X for most of the ride but Mrs C will be going home for a couple of days so I might need to revert to the B’Twin touring bike to carry a tent and kit for 2 nights.

Not 100% sure.
My thoughts:
Some days I think Trek Domane because it’s super comfy. Other days I think Merida because it’s got a triple and I’ve seen those damned hills in the first two days. Then I think with the Trek I’ve a good excuse to get off and walk.

Trek's winning at the moment or maybe I’ll swap bikes as I pass home :D

I used to be indecisive but now I’m not so sure.

Lejog bike.
Either the alloy Synapse disc brakes triple with 11-34 cassette
Or
the recently built planetx
Disc brakes carbon compact front with 11-40 cassette

What rear derailleur have you used? I’m planning to use the same gearing on my Cyclocross bike ready for the alps later this year. Ive ordered a read extender but not sure if my 105 SS derailleur will manage. I believe s medium cage rear should be OK with a Roadlink type extender .

34/40 gearing (0.85:1 ratio) will give you an easier gear than 30/32 (0.94:1 ratio)

Shimano 11 speed medium cage with roadlink
Cassette on Synapse is 11-34 not 11-30

Likely a slightly old Trek 1.2 - possibly a Ridgeback panorama. I prefer as thin wheels as possible! A new Trek if I get a windfall!

You can have my Trek 1.1 for £250 .. Only had 200 miles use .... See ads. Beautiful bike, but far too modern for me ..

Having changed from an iPhone to an android several things are different. I seem to have disappeared from Strava! John tried to get me back on but to no avail. Do I request to join again? I have done it already! Thanks.

TOOL KIT.
It is our intention to carry an extensive tool kit during the ride, rather than everyone lugging their own.
The kit will allow maintenance / removal / re-fit of all cycle components for a square tapered chainset based bike.
Spares carried will include inner tubes, english thread cassette bottom brackets, long cage Shimano derailleur, cables et al.
If you have a modern / weird BB then bring your own.
