Outer Hebrides

Post by matt2matt2002 »

I'm just back from a trip through the Outer Hebrides.
If anyone is planning to go that way ( not a usual route ) I'm more than happy to offer hints tips and advice.

I've been having a cycle around Skye with the daughter for the past few days, hope your weather was better than ours....

We enjoyed it though I told her,

All the best, Simon

I'm up there for a week in September. I haven't got any specific questions, but if you have any advice, places to see, places to avoid or do's and don'ts I would be very interested to read them

I was up the week before the wet weather came in.
And then high tailed it back to the east coast via Ullapool and Inverness.
Managed to keep my pedals dry!

I'm doing a blog on crazyguy.
I'll pm you the link when it's ready.

In a nut shell;
Southern islands are flatter than elsewhere.
Great beaches and clear blue seas.
Good road surfaces.
Plenty of hostels/ food stops.
Lack of roadside litter struck me.
Winds will get you one way or another.

Shetland doesn't have the same feel about it...,
IMO
But not much to choose between the two areas.
I liked the remoteness but i suspect later in the year things and the crowds pick up.
