West of Okehampton - Road Closure.

Post by Mick F »

We drove up to Okehampton yesterday, and the little road I always recommend people use is closed!
Don't know why, and don't know if cyclists can get through, and I don't know for how long it will be closed.

This is either end of the lane.

Here's alternatives .............................

If you're doing LEJOG you can use the A30 for a very short stretch. It's the way I would go because it's steeply downhill and you do nearly 40mph freewheeling, so it's over in a flash. If doing JOGLE, do not use the A30 as it's a terrible struggle up the hill, and the motor vehicles stack up behind slow vehicles. No fun at all on a bike. LEJOG is a doddle to use it. Come up the Old A30, cross under the A30, and take the sliproad signposted Okehampton.

Instead of using the A30 in either direction, this route is a good one. The A386 is a bit narrow and bendy in places, but it's ok.

That's the one!
Well done Gaz.

Looks like a false alarm from me, but I think the info is still good generally.
