Record attempt scheduled
Record attempt scheduled
Going through Berridale won’t help her schedule. Fingers crossed she can do it.
Re: Record attempt scheduled
Over Helmsdale
A very light wind coming in from the NE up there
Schedule had
@Lejogmack
at Helmsdale 0854, arrived there at 0929 = 35 mins behind schedule that breaks the record by 15 mins. So she is 20 minutes behind the record with 52 miles to go. Finish by 1245 to break record by 11 sec (!) - 52 miles in 3 hrs 16 min =15.9 mph required

Looks like it’s all over.
I’m gutted for her it was a great attempt ending up so near and so far. It must be particularly hard for the womens record as you’ve more sleep deprivation to fight than the men’s attempt.
I believe she is carrying on just for the ride maybe allow a good cafe stop.

+1
It must be a huge disappointment for all concerned.
Looking at the earlier graph at Golspie, it looked as if her pace was creeping slowly back up to meet her schedule but Helmsdale proved the killer. It also puts into perspective the achievement of Lynney Biddulph who lifted her pace at the end.

Yes, amazing effort, I can't imagine how much that takes out of you physically and mentally.
That Lynne's records have stood so long is incredible, going back to beat her 2001 record when the conditions were more favourable rather than being satisfied with the glory shows a mental attitude not many have. She was guest speaker at an event I went to some years ago, entertaining speaker and her determination came across, she rode there and back of course!
John Taylor's account of the record ride is worth a read

Great effort though, no doubt she will be back to tick this particular box.
Here is another great effort today - and success in this case - by a woman. https://www.bbc.com/sport/cycling/49248126

Re: Record attempt scheduled
Sorry to hear it.
Helmsdale and berriedale hills must be a killer after almost non stop riding for 800 miles.
Bad enough on freshly rested legs.
Best of luck next attempt.
Cheers James

I came across an interview with Mel Nicholls about her handcycle LEJOG record. I found it interesting.

Re: Record attempt scheduled
Looks like it's going to be another fascinating year for the lejog records with 4 female athletes vying for the record.

Looking forward to the above. Michelle is my clubs secretary. Suspect meetings are going to go off track.
Re: Record attempt scheduled
It's not a LEJOG record but there's not much else going on at the moment!
Interestingly the distance of Ireland NSN works out pretty close to a LEJOG at about 850 miles.

Has he done the ride or not?
Not yet Mick still waiting for a tail wind and heat I suspect.
He’s trying out a new bike in the Brecons today.
Does anybody know anything further? I can see that lockdown must have prevented any attempts this Summer.

All seems quiet on the record front.
Sources suspect Graham Obree is going to attempt a 'touring record'

I suspect that if Graham Obree had broken this record, somebody would have retrospectively changed the rules to disqualify him.

Re: Record attempt scheduled
Hello all,
Happy lockdown to everybody, I hope that this message finds you well,
As part of a celebration of the rich history of the Road Records Association, which is now over 130 years old, I have embarked upon a project to interview a number of past record holders. This is just part of the RRA "Project Red Caps" where we are presenting retrospective scarlet red record caps to record breakers from the last 64(!) years. My aim is to talk to them about their record breaking exploits, their motivations and their background. Most of all I am interested in listening to them describing their record breaking rides from their own point of view.
I have listed the links below to the first three interviewees - all three are outstanding, inspiring cyclists who have set a new mark riding from Land's End to John O'Groats.
1) RRA in conversation with Eileen Sheridan

2) RRA in conversation with Pauline Wallis (Strong)
https://soundcloud.com/user-971271891-2 ... lis-strong
3) RRA in conversation with Gethin Butler

I hope that you enjoy listening to these conversations and I will try and remember to post any further discussions on this thread. Any feedback, or tips, very welcome
