at Helmsdale 0854, arrived there at 0929 = 35 mins behind schedule that breaks the record by 15 mins. So she is 20 minutes behind the record with 52 miles to go. Finish by 1245 to break record by 11 sec (!) - 52 miles in 3 hrs 16 min =15.9 mph required

Looks like it’s all over.
I’m gutted for her it was a great attempt ending up so near and so far. It must be particularly hard for the womens record as you’ve more sleep deprivation to fight than the men’s attempt.
I believe she is carrying on just for the ride maybe allow a good cafe stop.

It must be a huge disappointment for all concerned.

Looking at the earlier graph at Golspie, it looked as if her pace was creeping slowly back up to meet her schedule but Helmsdale proved the killer. It also puts into perspective the achievement of Lynney Biddulph who lifted her pace at the end.

Yes, amazing effort, I can't imagine how much that takes out of you physically and mentally.
That Lynne's records have stood so long is incredible, going back to beat her 2001 record when the conditions were more favourable rather than being satisfied with the glory shows a mental attitude not many have. She was guest speaker at an event I went to some years ago, entertaining speaker and her determination came across, she rode there and back of course!

Helmsdale and berriedale hills must be a killer after almost non stop riding for 800 miles.
Bad enough on freshly rested legs.

It's not a LEJOG record but there's not much else going on at the moment!

Interestingly the distance of Ireland NSN works out pretty close to a LEJOG at about 850 miles.

Happy lockdown to everybody, I hope that this message finds you well,

As part of a celebration of the rich history of the Road Records Association, which is now over 130 years old, I have embarked upon a project to interview a number of past record holders. This is just part of the RRA "Project Red Caps" where we are presenting retrospective scarlet red record caps to record breakers from the last 64(!) years. My aim is to talk to them about their record breaking exploits, their motivations and their background. Most of all I am interested in listening to them describing their record breaking rides from their own point of view.
