The outright LEJOG cycling record, on a Windcheetah recumbent, is held by Andy Wilkinson and stands at 41 hours, 4 minutes and 22 seconds.
But that was not on a comparable machine. There are muliple records for different categories of machine and crew - bicycle, tricycle, tandem bicycle, tandem tricyce etc and crew both male and female. You are however correct in saying that the outright record is a different kettle of fish , but it is somewhat like pointing out that the solo tricycle record is slower than the solo bicycle record - quite irrelevant.
That's why the other records exist - the outright fastest cycling is still, I think, Andy's time. But other vehicle classes have their own records, they just don't match the outright record.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Chap I know very well .......and me and doggie ........... were in the pub earlier today.
He shows me a cutting from an RAF magazine (he used to be in the RAF donkey's years ago) and that a Phantom Jet holds the record LEJOG at an average speed - can't remember - but it was sub-sonic for obvious sonic boom reasons - but it was at 700 odd mph.

40odd minutes and the fastest ever.
I made the point that they didn't take off at LE or land at JOG, so it didn't count.
My mate wasn't impressed by this!

40 minutes?? You should have told him that the ISS goes half-way round the world in that time (and that's without using any power) :P

Heard about that on the news today.

My query is that back in 1984, did they time it correctly?
Clockwork clocks or computer-controlled digital stuff?

I watched the GCN vid a couple of nights ago. They offer a perfect example of what I always say about getting through Carlisle.

Her schedule is on Twitter, she's due where I saw the maths teacher at just before midnight. Not sure if I can stay up that late :|

Anyone know if there’s a live feed (or at least a live progress report)?

The maths teacher will post it on Twitter along with his wonderful graphs, most likely in the morning.
