It's all on Twitter!
Re: Record attempt scheduled
41 minutes up on schedule in just under 6 hours!
I asked 'the math teacher' if being up is by design and he said that there is a bit of a psychological advantage of doing the schedule so you're up but there isn't a definite answer

What do they use for tracking out of interest? Is it a Spot or a phone with app?

Spot tracker - sealed self-contained unit about the size of a matchbox. Less prone to errors, loss of signal and battery degredation than a phone, they'll last for days on continuous tracking. It's a 3-minute ping which is why it looks a bit jerky.ratherbeintobago wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 1:54pm What do they use for tracking out of interest? Is it a Spot or a phone with app?

Shes almost at St Johns Street in Bridgwater. Will they all come out of the shop to cheer her on.
Theres the odd downpour to contend with but a favourable wind. So its a wash and blow dry at the moment but northerly head winds forecast for tomorrow when she crosses the border into scotland

At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840
Re: Record attempt scheduled
over an hour up? I guess it's this helpful wind that is likely to change soon

Re: Record attempt scheduled
She’s doing really well. I wonder though if that line about the key going slow enough rather than fast enough might become an issue?
Re: Record attempt scheduled
Sometimes the tricky part is going slow enough if your used to riding faster.
Her background is in Triathlon and longer time trials. She needs to pace herself.
Much the same way I've been trying to slow down for Leeds Liverpool canal race. Happily run a marathon tomorrow but 126 in 36hr is tougher! Even though some will be walking.
Cheers James

Just wondering if the get permission to ride up the non cycling parts if the A30?
Otherwise I cannot see how you would get sufficient speed through Cornwall and Devon.
Impressive stats....

Re: Record attempt scheduled
Seems like she's got through the first night well and still an hour up?
Re: Record attempt scheduled
What non-cycling parts?
As far as I'm aware, it's a normal A road (albeit) mainly dualled, but all cycle-able ....... not pleasant by any means.
When they were dualling the Bodmin Moor section over Temple Downs, cycling wasn't allowed, but although they are in the process of creating a dual carriageway from Chiverton Cross to Carland Cross, the road is clear all the way. We drove it only last week, and there were no "cycling banned" signs.

Re: Record attempt scheduled
Interesting tweet from the maths teacher, especially that chart of the progress of the attempt compared with the schedule. It look as though the scheduled stop in Penrith was half the planned length which seems to be a good sign - more of a cushion if necessary later

With apologies to both WH Auden and 24hrmaths
Pulling up Beattock, a steady climb,
The gradient's against her - but she's over an hour up on schedule.
