We'll see when he gets about halfway between Penrith and Carlisle, as that's the half-way point between LE and JOG.
50% and it'll prove it.

The % figure just (shortly after midnight) ticked down to 49% and our hero is still on the south-west edge of Manchester. On the other hand the stats may have gone screwy as the DFM figure, which we thought was total distance covered, is back down to 39-point-something km.

Good morning guys.
I often wake up at about now, and tonight is no different. Thought I'd get up and have a cuppa and check Ian's progress.

He's just south of Preston now, and I make it that he has 80odd miles to go to the half-way point. He has to get there in 22hrs from LE to do the ride in 44hrs.

It's just after 2am now, and he has to be half way at 4am. He can't do 80miles in 2hrs.

Just seen him pass through Preston (i'm working Nights!). He looked relatively fresh.

PS he stopped at a red light.

Good to hear it on both counts!
Good morning to you. Hope you had a good shift.

Approaching Shap Fell now.
I still think he'll be outside the record as he's still not half way and he's been going for 24hrs. If I'm right, why is he keeping going at this punishing pace?

I've been looking at this since 0530. There's a couple of hours on the schedule with no landmarks. The next is Penrith, just after 0500 on schedule, but it's now 0600 with some distance to go to Penrith.
======================================================
It's just logged Shap village just after 0630, which I make as approx 10 miles to Penrith.

He's going to have to fly to do it.
He could be about 2hrs behind I reckon, so he's going to have to sprint.

I don't envy him in the slightest, but I do admire his guts and determination.

Top of Shap now, so he can whiz down and down and down. Great cycling road! :D

Let's hope he has something left at the end for a final push.

Half way is north of Penrith, and he's not in Penrith yet.
He could be more than 2hrs behind.

There must have been a glitch with the tracking because he was shown as stationary for about 15 minutes but he passed the A66 just after 0700 so that looks like a couple of hours down on schedule

Half way now.
He's keeping going even though he's 3.5hrs behind.

No he's not.
He seems to have stopped completely.
He's with the support car at about the half-way point.
Been together and stopped for quite a while.

At 7am he has 380 miles to go with 21 hours left. You would expect him to be a little behind due to slowing down overnight.

At
07:04 stats: 461.6 miles done, 18.5 mph average. 383.1 miles to go

Looks like I’m going to miss him passing me :( as I’m head off away for a few days. :D

Did he start too quickly, from reading posts yesterday, that may have been the issue?

Noticed he hadn't moved for a while then this tweet happened

Hi everyone, yesterday Ian suffered with heatstroke. He also had a minor crash early on. He's struggled with a bad stomach throughout the night and this morning we've decided, for his safety, to abandon the attempt. We choose to go out but we must come back. More to follow...
