The forecast winds don't really look favourable until Friday. A Friday or Saturday start looks like he would get a slowly strengthening tailwind for much of the ride. A bit of rain likely to be around in places though but temperatures not dropping too low overnight, staying around 10/11C minimum rather than the 5 or 6C forecast earlier in the week.

In the big scheme of things a few of us here on the cUK forum are insignificant but it's a sign of how insignificant that we get more and better info from the record holder than we do from the one hoping to break it.

81 year old Mavis Paterson set off today from Lands End hoping to become the oldest lady to do the ride. She's doing it for Macmillan charity. Tunnocks the bar makers have supplied a custom built camper van for her!

I know Mavis she has always been a tough cookie and raised lots for Macmillan over the years. Back in the nineties she was encouraged to have a go at Audax. She chose a 400 took her time and got around. Wishing her a safe and pleasurable ride.

I noticed a guy, James Williams, trying to run LEJOG in 8 day packed at 377 mls on his fourth day.

Thanks for the update and good luck to Mel Nicholls. Plenty of dot watching to come. :D

After the post by 24hourmaths about Ian To submitting a schedule, I had a look at the RRA rules. I had wrongly assumed that there was something like a fortnight's window after a submission but I see it lasts for the rest of the calendar year. I've given up checking the Ultracycling www for news so I'm relying on your monitoring service.

Mavis went through my patch yesterday. Sadly I’m not at home so couldn’t ride with her. She’s doing Abington to Glasgow today. I might be back when Mel passes by. :D

I can’t see any favourable weather for Ian To in the immediate future.

Thanks for the link. Humbling to watch. Breaking the record and still being able to thank helpers and the timekeeper more coherently than Oscar winners. Brilliant vid. Brilliant achievement. A mark that will take some beating.

Oops, sorry!

I didn't read the script, just checked out the map.

As an excuse, we know a couple called Mel and Mal.
Mel is the bloke and Mal is his wife. Malcolm and Marilyn.
