Sounds a good course, its hard to be certain without knowing which roads you're on.

A bit of good news; if the first few days through Cornwall and Devon feel really hard...its because they are. Don't worry.

Whoever designed those two counties should have mandatory retraining. But if you've made it as far as Cheddar, you're going to make it all the way.

It's difficult to comment as it's not clear what roads you will actually be using. Links to an on line mapping site would be handy.

I'll make a start with the route as far as Tiverton.

Are you planning an overnight in Bodmin? Most folk head for Wadebridge or use the ferry at Padstow and then on to Launceston via Camelford. From there follow the old A30 to Okehampton. Beyond Okehampton you could stay on the old A30 to Exeter and follow the Exe valley to Tiverton but the received wisdom on here is to head for Crediton and on to Tiverton via Thorveton and Bickleigh, thus avoiding the Cadbury Hills to the north.

Hi All - I did the route using Google Maps: using the cycling option: on the day I will use a Garmin 700 - and plot the week ahead using that. I have booked a hotel near Lands End and that is pretty much my plans. I had not thought as far as Bodmin though it is very likely I will stop in a camp site over night.

All a bit seat of the pants stuff but that is okay part of the Adventure

You mean Hallworthy - not Hallsworthy?
Hallworthy is on the A395 and no doubt you will turn off it there to go via Canworthy Water and North Tamerton to Holsworthy.
Also, no doubt you will be going from Bodmin and up the B3266 towards Camelford to the A39 and to the A395.

I know all those roads well!

If you made it to Cumbria using road signs you’ll probably never get out of Cumbria. A lot of country lane road junctions lack any hint of direction. Years ago, before phones and gps, I used to cycle to Acomb YHA ( Hexham) and I swear my route through Cumbria was never on the same roads. Hadn’t a clue where I was many a time.

Easiest and fastest route is via main trunk roads.
LE to Exteter on the A30 for instance,

All well signposted. You don't need a map, just an idea of the geography. Take a compass so you can point your bike northwards after leaving Exeter.

North through Exeter and to the B3181 signposted to Cullompton. Keep going signposted Tiverton, and then Taunton and then Bridgwater and then Bristol and then Gloucester etc etc etc.

No worries.
Just sounds very "urban" to me. Although there are quiet lanes if you know them.
Wimps are planning to use a more westerly route. (north up along A49 corridor.)
We still have to go through Warrington/Preston but hoping to find parallel lanes for quieter riding without adding hills or extraneous mileage.
Do you intend picking up the A6 around Chorley and where do you cross the Manchester ship canal ?

Whitmore Reans? Get to Kidderminster then head for Wolverley, Kinver, Pattingham then Gnosall and Eccleshall. Much better route than the A449. Great lanes for riding a bike!

Cycleruk is my Manchester expert I will leave advice on the Manchester ship canal to him when we meet up - can you tell I have not thought this out in detail?
